Liwa al-Quds, the Sunni face of Iran-backed militias

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Supporters of Liwa al-Quds militia that fights alongside the Syrian regime are preparing for the 5th anniversary for their formation, which include celebration and relaunching a satellite broadcast for Qasyoun channel.

Qasyoun channel broadcasts via Egyptian Nilesat, and it programmes are similar to those of the regime in regard to showing its achievements and victories
Many media agencies and reports make a mistake when they talk about the first launch of the regime-loyalist militias of Palestinian majority, many of them claim they were formed in 2013, while other say in the beginning of 2014. But the reality, the militias have been formed only 7 months after the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011.

Since formation from Palestinian mercenaries, they became the regime main force in Aleppo, as they used to intimidate nd kill both Syrians and Palestinians.
Mohammed Saeed, the leader and founder of the militias an exception for regime-supporting militias, as he has not been killed yet, unlike most the other militias’ leaders.

Liwa al-Quds militias have complicated loyalties, from one side, it has strong ties with the Syrian intelligence, and organisational connection to the national leadership for al-Baath Party, added to their connection with other sectarian militias especially Hezbollah, and most importantly their relations with the Iranian militias of Republican Guards. It seems that Liwa al-Quds is only a Sunni face of al-Quds battalion led by Qassem Suleimani.

Lately, the militias have support from the Russians as their leader Mohammed Saeed was honoured by a Russian military representative, same as they did with other militias’ leader who gave the Russians help.
