SDF militia detains hundreds of displaced people in Hasaka province

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The U.S.-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) militia has detained hundreds of displaced people who live in a random camp in al-Shadadi town in Hasaka province, activists said Tuesday.

SDF has conditioned that the displaced people who
fled Deir ez-Zor province to bring a sponsor to allow them to cross to its controlled areas in the past period.

Ahmad Ramadan, member in Furat Post campaign said, “the Kurdish self-administration and SDF militia detain hundreds of Deir ez-Zor locals in a camp set in a hurry in al-Shadadi area. Others are distributed on other camps in a very hard living conditions.” He added that they are waiting to get a guarantee for SDF checkpoints to allow them to cross.

Al-Ramadan clarified in a statement to Zaman al-Wasl that the families move from Deir ez-Zor western countryside to al-Shadadi and al-Houl areas through their relatives who live in Hasaka city.

He pointed out the displaced from Deir ez-Zor take different roads to exit ISIS-controlled areas. The first one is to the north of Aleppo via Raqqa road and the second to Damascus countryside through Badiye, and the third is to Hasaka via al-Houl and al-Shadadi and this one is the closest.

Al-Ramadan indicated that people buy whatever they need from water and food and even tents in the random camp, adding that a child from al-Malhe died because of a drought a while ago whereas SDF insists on people to secure a sponsor as a condition to let them cross.

Democratic Union Party (PYD) established 4 camps to receive displaced from other areas and banned them from residing in areas under its control. Arab Iraqi refugees live in al-Houl and Roj in Hasaka eastern countryside whereas Yezidis reside in Nawruz camp in al-Malkiye as they got displaced from Sinjar in Iraq. Displaced people from Aleppo and Raqqa live in al-Mabroke camp on the administrative borders between Raqqa and Hasaka.

PYD announced last April establishment of a fifth camp north of Hasaka city in Tal Tayr village called al-Khabour camp which can host at least 1000 persons. Al-Salam center and civil society participated in planting trees in the camp and until now it was not mentioned whether the camp received people or not.

PYD had released 16 women from Deir ez-Zor last may after a detention that lasted 9 days in PYD prisons in al-Mabrouke town in Hasaka western countryside.
