Eastern Ghouta residents protest against rebels' rifts, demand unity

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A rebel faction operating in the embattled Eastern Ghouta suburbs near Damascus has opened fire on protests demanding unity among opposition fighters as regime army make gains around the capital, local activists said Friday.

Activists of Zamalka suburb said Faylaq al-Rahman had opened fire on demonstrators, and had spread masked fighters to surround the demonstration.

The protests demanded the factions to open all fronts including Damascus front and forming a joint operation room including all military formations.

 The Local Coordination said the demonstration passed through towns of Eastern Ghouta demanding leaders of Faylaq al-Rahman and Jaish al-Islam to unite and to stop disagreement between them and open fronts, but al-Faylaq shot them with live fire.

Moreover, activists in Eastern Ghouta published a short video showing the moment of shooting against demonstration by members claimed to be of Faylaq al-Rahman in Zamalka, but no injury was reported.

Furthermore, many towns and villages in Eastern Ghouta witnessed many demonstration on Friday, expressed their rejection for reconciliation with regime, beside demanding military formations to form a united operation room to face regime aggression and attempts to invade Ghouta.

Demonstration went out in Douma, Kafr Batna, Harasta, Erbin and Zamalka. The total demonstrators exceeded 5000, all of them demanded Faylaq al-Rahman an Jaish al-Islam to end disagreement between them and free prisoners.
