'Secure smuggling' new way for Syrians to enter Turkey

(Zaman Al Wasl)- So-called “Secure smuggling” operations are active from Syria to Turkey via cross points which may or may not be official between Turkey and Syria in northern Syria in exchange for a sum exceeding $1500.

Um Mohamed tells Zaman al-Wasl that she crossed with her four sons via a parallel road to Bab al-Hawa cross point for $1500 per person.

Um Mohamed refused to reveal the identity of the smuggler or the party that facilitates these operations from official cross points fearing of consequences of revealing this information.

According to Um Mohamed, she waited more than month and a half on the borders with Syria until she found the opportunity for “secure smuggling” to enter Turkish soil. At the same time, she repeatedly tried to cross via Kharbet al-Jouz and other illegal cross points but her attempts failed.

Zaman al-Wasl tried to search for the party facilitating the “secure smuggling” but without any results since the persons who are trying to communicate with move from one phase to another to test if they are serious in entering Turkey and paying 1500$.
On his part, Abu Ali confirms he entered Turkey in the same way for a sum exceeding $1500 and also refused to reveal any information about the party which let him in.

On the other hand, Abu Mutee disclaims that there is “secure smuggling” on the Turkish-Syrian borders in the northern countryside of Aleppo, pointing out he offered 1800$ for anyone to let his disabled father in Tukrey, but he failed.

He added that the person known as Abu Ali Siju who has power over Bab al-Salameh from Izaz side is the biggest of whom he called as “the green”-referring to Dollar currency-indicating that Siju is the only one who can let anyone enter or exit Turkey.

Syrians suffer a lot during their attempts at entering Turkey via “illegal ways” which mostly fail or hand them in to thieves. In contrast, there are those who succeed to enter Turkish cities adjacent to the borders, but might suffer deportation again by the Turkish Janderma if they are stopped by checkpoints on the road.
