Hasaka: U.N. facilitates Iraqi refugees exodus to al-Hol camp


(Zaman Al Wasl)- U.S.-backed Syria Democratic Forces on Thursday allowed hundreds of Iraqi refugees to cross via the barrier of Rajm Salibi at the Syrian-Iraqi borders to the camp of al-Hol Eastern of Hasaka.

Farhan Saleh al-Turkey, manager of the human Rights Organisation office and other officials of United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR) have visited the barrier of Rajm Salibi few days ago and witnessed the miserable conditions refugees lived in. They managed to facilitate transporting them over two patches, first of 150 children and women, the second of 117 elderly and ill.

Turkey confirmed that they would carry on transporting the 5174 refugees to the last one of them.

The Kurdish Self Administration has mentioned via its media that hundreds of Iraqi refugees had entered the camp of al-Hol at two patches, the first were 438 Iraqi refugees, and the other 75 Iraqi families consisted of 333 people most of them women and children. The Administration mentioned that human organisation have let the refugees down.

UNHCR has confirmed via a statement on its website November 8 confirmed distributing urgent relief materials to people stuck at the barrier of Rajm Salibi, evacuated 115 people to the camp of al-Hol by buses. UNHCR mentioned that coming winter would exaggerate the bad condition and suffering of those refugees, especially vulnerable like children and elderly.

UNHCR has estimated the number of stuck Iraqi refugees by 1200 , 700 females and 500 males, including 610 children, 200 of them under 5 years old, and 40 elderly over 60 years old.

Moreover, according to UNHCR, there was 3000 displaced Syrians, among them 1800 females and 1200 males, including 1800 children, added to 70 elderly over 60 years old, inclduing 500 Syrians and 200 Iraqis with injuries.

UNHCR confirmed that they are ready to provide 15,000 refugees with urgent relief in al-Hol camp, with possibility to maximise capacity to cover 50,000 refugees.
