Rebel factions in Eastern Ghouta to merge in one military body: statement

(Zaman al-Wasl)- The General Body in Eastern Ghouta released a second statement regarding, “National Rescue Initiative” and the parties and factions which responded or did not respond to the initiative.

According to the statement, the committee assigned to the initiative received a written response from Ahrar al-Sham Movement in Eastern Ghouta on November 11.

The response said Ahrar al-Sham has primarily agreed to the initiative and some things had to be taken into consideration without naming representative in the four entities. Ahrar al-Sham also suggested extending the initiative to include Barzeh and Qaboun neighborhoods.

The statement indicated the assigned committee had received a written response from Faylaq al-Sham on November 11 agreeing primarily with the initiative with some notes saying they want the names to be announced when the meeting is held.

Also, the committee received a written statement from Fajr al-Umma on November 12 agreeing to the initiative and noting that the names should be named in the meeting.

The statement pointed out that the General Body did not receive a written statement from Jaish al-Islam.

The body after studying the responses and discussions between the committee and Jaish al-Islam called to hold a meeting for all armed factions without exceptions as soon as possible to agree on the initiative clauses and implement the initiative.

The political body in the General Body in Eastern Ghouta has proposed an initiative end of October to merge the armed factions working in Eastern Ghouta in one army under a new leadership including all human resources and material resources. The army carries the revolution flag and adopts the revolution goals and works to achieve them.

The initiative called to dissolve the remaining factions and to merge in the new army as well as establish the general leadership council in Eastern Ghouta consisting of the political body formed by the initiative and Military Shura Council.
