(The Daily Star)- An Israeli raid targeted a Syrian military post and a Hezbollah position early Wednesday near Beirut-Damascus highway, a security source told The Daily Star.
The source said that Israeli warplanes flying in from Lebanon fired four air-to-surface missiles at the targets. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Witnesses in the area said they heard four loud explosions during the pre-dawn raid.
The Israeli warplanes, according Times of Israel, also struck a number of vehicles traveling on the main highway believed to have been part of a weapons convoy led by Hezbollah.
No official report has been issued from any side on the strikes so far.
Ynetnews Israeli website said that the Israeli army declined to confirm or deny the report, saying: "We do not respond to foreign reports."
Israel has struck targets in Syria on several dozen occasions since the outbreak of the conflict in 2011.
Hezbollah made public that it was fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces in 2013. It is one of the major forces on the ground in the conflict.
