Syrians rally in solidarity with east Aleppo

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Residents of rebel-held areas throughout Syria went to streets on Friday, expressing solidarity with east Aleppo and condemning the brutal offensive that claims lives of hundreds of people.

Demonstrations in many areas in Syria demanded military factions to unite and end the state of division and fragmentation among the military and political opposition. They asked Syrian people outside the country to demonstrate in front of Russian embassies around the word.

In Idlib, villages of Kafranbel, Hazarin, Sarmin, Farkya, Kafr Daryan, Atmeh, Khan al-Sabil, Aqrabat, Kalli, Saraqib, Moaarat Noman, Talmins, Habit, and Khan Shikhon witnessed demonstrations supporting Aleppo.

In Daraa, Dozens of demonstrations came out in villages and towns of Daraa al-Balad, Garya Sharqiya, Msifra, al-Hiraq, al-Jiza, al-Sahwa, Om al-Midan, Saida, Dael, al-Yadoda, Saham al-Golan, Tafas, Jasim, al-Hara, Nawa and Tasil. They demanded fighting factions to unite.

Towns of Erbin, Ain Tarma, Saqba, Jobar and Douma in the countryside of Damascus witnessed demonstration supporting Aleppo and asking all revolutionary forces to unite to form one body.

Meanwhile,
Russia's Defense Ministry official Sergei Rudskoi said Friday the takeover of eastern Aleppo by regime forces has created the conditions for the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Syria,

Rudskoi added that all civilians and most rebel fighters had left formerly rebel-controlled districts of the city and more than 3,400 fighters from the "moderate opposition" had surrendered their weapons.

Speaking on a visit to Japan on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he and his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan planned a new series of Syrian peace talks without the involvement of the United States or the United Nations.

Rebels have held eastern parts of Aleppo since 2012. But the major regime operation backed by Russian air forces and Iranian militias has squeezed them inside and area less than 3 sq km.

Almost 50,000 civilians, according to UN estimates were besieged there and under intense bombardment.

Inside Aleppo, bodies lie on the streets because people were frightened of going out to move them. Food was scarce, they say, and there was no medical treatment for the injured.

Under the terms of an earlier agreement between the Assad regime and Syrian opposition groups, civilians trapped in eastern Aleppo will be allowed to go to the opposition-held city of Idlib.

In recent days, at least 7,500 civilians have left eastern Aleppo for Idlib, according to Syrian opposition sources.

However, the evacuation of civilians from Syria’s city of Aleppo was temporarily suspended on Friday after pro-regime terrorist groups attacked a civilian convoy that set out from the city’s besieged eastern districts for the nearby city of Idlib.

Syria has been suffering of a devastating civil war since early 2011, when al-Assad regime suppressed peaceful demonstration, which erupted in March same year.
Since then, more than 310,000 thousand people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced across the war-torn country, according to the UN.

Other source estimates that 470,000 people were killed according to the Syrian Centre for Policy Research, a Beirut-based NGO. (With agencies)
