(Zaman Al Wasl)- Moscow’s invitation to 24 Syrian Kurdish parties to attend a meeting in Hmeymim base in the Syrian coast comes as an attempt to provide an opposition coverage to Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in order to participate within the opposition negotiation delegate for the “political solution” with Bashar al-Assad regime in the future.
Kurdistan Newspaper Editor In-Chief Omar Kojari clarified to Zaman al-Wasl that the “summoning” if is to be called so is not Russian, but one from a military general whose country occupies Syria and whose warplanes kill its women and children. Otherwise, the meeting would have been held in the Russian foreign ministry in Moscow and not in Hmeymim airport in Latakia.
Kojari said, “the invitation was directed to many Kurdish parties. Some we hardly have heard of. They do not have any effect or role not even few members. In general, the parties which responded to the invitation are involved with PYD. The parties of the Kurdish Local Council and the Progressive Democratic Party refused to attend.”
He added, “it is not a Russian invitation to Kurdish parties, but the Russian general wanted all those parties in one place to form a unified delegate to participate in the future negotiations of Syria representing the Kurdish group. But truth be said, the aim is very clear and that is to agree to the terms of Assad regime and what the regime wants.”
Kojari indicated that “we may not witness negotiations as much as a secure exit for the proxy authority from the region. The movie is over and the intelligence grip is to comeback firm as before or maybe firmer.”
Kojari said that the parties which went to Hmeymim presented a memo to the Russian general including some unclear points and they formed a committee to participate in the international negotiation. The Kurdish Local Council not participating in any negotiation or conference regarding the Kurdish population will be useless politically and It will not succeed for sure. He pointed out that PYD not accepting the partnership with the Kurdish council in any form when PYD prisons still detain members from the council, this is why this invitation is lacking and meaningless.
Regarding the issue, the political analyst and expert in Russian Affairs Dr. Mahmoud al-Hamza told Zaman al-Wasl that the Russians played with the Kurdish card since the outbreak of the revolution especially the Saleh Maslem’s forces and his party, PYD, who are close to the regime fought the opposition and the revolution.
He added that Russia wanted the opposition delegate to include the opposition called so by Moscow like the Cairo Conference opposition, Astane, and Hmeime like Randa Qasis and others, confirming that all of them are in the orbit of the regime and the Russian stand.
Al-Hamza pointed out that Russia after what happened in Aleppo felt that it is able to impose the political solution and it is in coordination with Turkey. There is another reason which is that Moscow does not trust its allies of the regime, Iran and Hezbollah and that’s why it is in a rush to impose a political solution to secure its interests in Syria.
The Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria mentioned in a statement last week that the party apologized to the Russian side for not participation in the meeting and answering the invitation directed to 24 Kurdish parties to Hmeymim to discuss with Russians following the failure to form a Kurdish mutual delegated due to the dispute between the Democratic Society Movement and the Kurdish Local Council since the later decided not to participate in the preparations.
The party indicated in its statement that a party delegate met the leadership of Hmeymim airport on November 27 and proposed to Russians the necessity to invite all representatives of Kurdish entities to Moscow or Hmeymim in order to unify the Kurdish stand and form a Kurdish delegate to be authorized to negotiate with the government side or international arenas in issues related to Syria.
He said that he proposed 2 from PYD, 2 from the National Council, 1 from the National Alliance and 1 from the Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria.
