Fuel crisis sparks anger in Latakia, people protest

(Zaman Al Wasl)- In unprecedented way, fuel crisis aggravated in Syrian in general and in Latakia province in particular. Most gas stations stopped working because they are not supplied with fuel since days and most cars were parked except for cars owned by state officials and big thugs and army officers.

Private and public vehicles stopped work which deprived many students from arriving to their universities and schools. Half of state employees were absent from work especially those residing in the countryside.

It did not stop here; many mini buses drivers announced open strike until there is a radical solution for the fuel crisis despite that concerned authorities supplied their vehicles with limited amount of diesel to transport employees and students.

Media activist Mohamed al-Sahili pointed out that cities and towns in the Syrian coast did not witness such a crisis since the outbreak of the revolution. The Ministry of Oil stopped supplying gas stations with fuel since the beginning of February and they only supplied fuel to one or two stations.

He added that, “when people hear news that a gas station is being supplied with fuel, hundreds of cars rush to line in long queues.”

He confirmed that most cars return without being supplied because thugs, security personnel and army take over the available amount of fuel.

Also, he said that streets are empty except for the cars of those who get the fuel by force and the cars owned by rich people who can afford to buy fuel from black market ten times over its official price.

Regime supporters pages were full with angry comments and many cursed the
Khamis Government and minister of oil due to their repeated promises of securing fuel describing them as mere lies.
