Five rebel groups merge in Hasaka to fight Kurdish militias


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Five rebel groups operating in northern Hasaka province have merged on Friday in one armed group aims to confront powerful Kurdish PYD militia, calling for men in province to join their ranks, according to a video statement.

Abu Humam, senior commander in the newly-formed Hasaka Sons Rally, said the moderate group includes Ajnad al-Hasaka, Liwa al-Furateen, Ahrar al-Kurd, Liwa al-Ikhlas and Liwa Ahrar al-Shadadi, indicating they are deployed to fronts with Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Regarding 'Al-Hasaka Group for Opposition and Rebel Forces', Abu Humam said the group will release a statement during the week to identify the leadership and political representation with opposition forces in Hasaka and coordination with the “National Group”.

FSA latest presence in Syria’s al-Jazira was after the settlement held between Guyran Rebels battalions and regime forces in September 2014. The settlement mediated by community leaders put a stop to the offensive on Guyran neighborhood in Hasaka city and evacuate fighters with their weapons to Abdulaziz mountain west of the city.

Hasaka province is controlled by many forces, military arm of Democratic Union Party control the widest area, while the regime controls the security square in the city, and the Islamic State controlled the town of Markada, its last stronghold in the city.
