(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russia’s airstrikes in support of regime forces have killed seven people and wounded ten more in Aleppo province, local reporter said Thursday.
The aerial attack targeted Darret Azza town in the western countryside of Aleppo.
In its turn, regime forces have captured al-Jarrah airbase in the eastern countryside of Aleppo amid reports say the Islamic State has handed over the strategic stronghold to regime, pro-government Press TV and local reporter said Thursday.
A military source said ISIS fighters had withdrawn from the small al-Jarrah military airport near Maskanah town on Thursday as regime army backed by Shiite allies launched an attack to reestablish control over it, according to Enab Baladi news site.
ISIS left about 200 Syrian fighters in the base after pulling back foreign and Arab jihadists, Zaman al-Wasl reporter said.
The regime army has made a rapid advance against ISIS in Aleppo, taking control of 19 towns and villages on the eastern and southern countryside of Aleppo, while the Turkish military and Syrian rebel groups it backs have been fighting Manbij-based militia to the west of the city.
Northern Syria has been a focal point of the Syrian war in recent weeks with most of the parties to the multi-sided conflict involved in one way or another.
In the next-door provinceo f Idlib, 7 people, including 4 children and a woman, have been killed on Thursday in airstrikes hit a school in the northern town of Kafranbel, local activists said.
The vacuum missile attacks have also left 10 people wounded and huge destruction in the town's elementary school.
Last Sunday, regime airstrikes killed 6 civilians in Kafranbel. A woman and a child were among the victims of 8 raids hit the town.
In eastern Syria, a suspected US-led airstrikes on Thursday have killed 14 civilians, including six children, in a northern Al-Matab village near Raqqa, activists said.
"The raids hit the village of al-Matab after midnight and were likely carried out by the coalition," said Rami Abdel Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Al-Matab lies near a key road linking Raqqa -- ISIS' de facto capital -- to Deir Ezzor city, the capital of the adjacent oil-rich province. (With agencies)
