(Zaman Al Wasl)- Powerful Kurdish PYD militia arrested around 30 civilians in major conscription campaign in Hasaka province after they objected to their children being conscripted by force into the militias subordinate to the Democratic Union Party.

According to local sources, the Democratic Union Party militants are still holding the 30 civilians from Umm al-Kif village. The civilians detained objected to militia members raiding their houses and taking their young men. The young men taken are sent to training camps ahead of anticipated fighting with Islamic State forces.

The sources pointed out that the dispute between the people and the Kurdish Party militants began after members of a patrol requested back up since the villagers of Umm al-Kif were refusing their conscription of their sons. The Party sent large reinforcements from the Asayish militia, the People's Protection Units and the Women's Protection Units to the village. These forces surrounded the village to force the people to submit and allow the conscription of the youths.

The village women attacked a leader in the Women's Protection Units after she insulted the villagers and threatened them with worse punishment. The village women beat this leader up prompting the militias to fire in the air to disperse the villagers. The militias then carried out an arrest campaign, according to the same sources.

The campaign including all the towns and towns under the control of the party in the northern and southern countryside. The campaign came to launch the 28th session of the party's conscription camps in the province.

Zaman al-Wasl’s reporter pointed out that the campaign coincided with the regime forces arresting dozens of people in the regime controlled areas within the city of Hasaka as part of the framework of compulsory and reserve mandatory military service. The campaign came after parents in the area have not sent their sons to complete their mandatory military service since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in March 2011.

The military discipline units subordinate to the Democratic Union Party announced the end of the 27th session during which around 850 recruits were trained at the Kebka and Tel Baidar camps on February 21, 2017. The fighters who graduated from the session participated in battles fought by the Democratic Union Party forces.
