(Zaman Al Wasl)- A woman and two children have been killed and eight more wounded in the northeastern province of Hasaka province as heavy clashes still underway between US-led Syrian Democratic Forces and ISIS near al-Shaddadi town, activists said.
Hasaka-based activist Ahmad al-Ali said the casualties were injured when a landmine exploded in the area of Wadi al-Raqiyat, al-Shaddadi which is located in the separation zone between ISIS-held areas and SDF-held areas.
Al-Ali explained that the three civilians were trying to cross from the Islamic State controlled areas to the Syrian Democratic Forces controlled areas in southern Hasaka.
In addition to these casualties, six civilians were injured on Monday during mortar shelling by the SDF on a civilian gathering in the village of Tel al-Munakh while the civilians transported rainwater collecting in one of the valleys close to the town of al-Fadghami located in the separation zone between the two sides.
Discussing the situation in al-Shaddadi city and Markada town, al-Ali said that families displaced from the areas of fighting are experiencing terrible conditions due to a lack of food and drinking water. Limited quantities of drinking water are being transported from Deir Ez Zor countryside and sold by the liter (one liter is sold for two Syrian pounds) in the absence of any relief and humanitarian organizations.
Many civilians are trying to leave the areas under Islamic State control south of Hasaka and Deir Ez Zor. They are paying smugglers large sums of money to leave Islamic State controlled areas.
The Islamic State forces still control the town of Markada in Hasaka province. The town is its last stronghold in the province. The SDF are fighting the Islamic State forces in the area with aerial support from the International Coalition.
The US-led Coalition warplanes have repeatedly bombed the town and surrounding villages of Markada in a bid to force the Islamic State forces to retreat from the town.
