(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime warplanes on Thursday stepped up airstrikes on southern Daraa city as rebels press gains in strategic district in the Old City, taking security barracks, local activists said.
Al-Manshiya neighborhood, the regime’s largest barrack in Daraa and which is a home for 20,000 people, has turned into battlefield for rebels and regime forces for the last three months.
Rebels said they seized a security zone including bases for air, military and political intelligence.
On Wednesday, Rebels took 45 buildings in al-Manshiya and destroyed two tanks, according to activists.
The rebel groups that participate in the battles, including Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, led by former al-Qadea offshoot -formerly known as the Nusra Front- and Ahrar al-Sham.
