(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 76 regime troops, including 14 officers, from Hama province were killed in March by rebels and the Islamic State, pro-regime activists said.
Most of the soldiers were killed in the northern countryside of Hama when rebels launched a major attack three weeks ago. Many more were killed in Damascus suburbs and in eastern Homs in clashes with ISIS.
The slain soldiers were from the towns of Qamhana, Mhardeh and Misyaf in Ghab Plain, regime’s biggest stronghold in Hama province where most of residents are Alawites, the Assad family's sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
Syria’s 6-year-old war left 465,000 people killed and more than 12 million displaced.
