Dubai makes history with winning bid to host World Expo 2020

 Dubai has won in its bid for the World Expo 2020. In the third and final round Dubai received 116 votes of a possible 132.

It got through to the final round of voting with 87 votes - that's 52%, after Izmir, Turkey was eliminated with just 36 votes, Russia received 41. Sao Paulo lost in the first round of voting in the process of selecting the host city for the World Expo 2020 bid at the Bureau International des Exhibitions (BIE) General Assembly in Paris, France.

The results of the first round were Dubai - 77, Ekaterinburg, Russia - 39 . and Sao Paulo was eliminated with 13. The voting process involves a maximum of three rounds and is estimated to take 3 hours. Each of the 168 member nations of the BIE has one vote.
