(Zaman Al Wasl)- Abdul Basset al-Sarout, Syrian revolution Icon and vocal supporter, has been detained by former a Qaeda group in northern Idlib province, such a move sparks anger of the opposition activists who demanded his imminent release.
Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, powerful alliance of Islamist factions and led formerly known as Nusra Front, has arrested al-Sarout since ten days ago over claims of links with the Islamic State.
Displaced people of Homs in Idlib countryside along with tens of people went to streets demanding release of al-Sarout who with Ibrahim al-Qashoush nce led the demonstration against Bashar al-assad in homs and Hama, singing motivational songs and chants urging people for more fortitude and patience to overthrow al-Assad regime.

Al-Sarout is thought to have survived at least three assassination attempts. He moved from being a famous goalkeeper to be a leader of the Syrian revolution in Homs.
Syrian people kept in mind al-Sarout remarkable song when he kissed a murdered 19-year-old protester's bloody head whilst a crowd chanted to the beat of a drum "Sleep easy we will continue the struggle... mothers weep for Syria's youth".
