Germany: Syrian refugees obliged to deal with Assad Embassy

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Some German provinces require refugees who want to register their children to bring documents and identity papers either from Syria or from regime embassy in Berlin. Hence refugees have two options; either to leave their children without registration which affects their education and health care preserved by refugee law, or they have to enter regime embassy which killed them and displaced them and pay large sum of money used to kill the rest of their families in Syria.

To see the current consular prices 2017 advertised on the site of the Syrian Embassy in Berlin shows that the fees for extending the passport 190 euros and granting a new passport 380 euros.

It is ironic, however, that some German provinces deny the right to human protection to those who enter or deal with the embassy of the regime on the basis of the International Refugee Convention - Geneva, which states: "Anyone who, by choosing to invoke the protection of the country of his nationality or who has regained his nationality after losing it, As a refugee in Germany, has extended or renewed his original passport from the embassy of the mother country may lose his right to asylum in Germany."

This is what the Geneva Convention accords comply with article 72 of the German law, according to human rights advocates.

Mahmoud Aphara, a Syrian activist who lives in the city of Nordlingen, went to register his newborn daughter in the Immigration Department a month and a half ago. The employee asked him to bring a passport to him and his wife and to secure family papers from the Syrian embassy. Because his wife does not own a passport nor residency in Germany, his untimely suffering began even after the death of his daughter in mysterious circumstances.

Afara - as he says – found it difficult to go to the Embassy of the regime since refugee under German law is prohibited to enter the embassy of his mother country. If the refugee did not abide by this law, he might be turned into a hearing and a new court to decide if he is entitled to asylum.

He said that he met with the Minister of Immigration in the state of Nordlingen and the Minister of the Interior to solve his problem, which is the problem of many Syrian refugees at the same time, and the Minister of Immigration gave him an exception so that he did not have to go to the Embassy to authenticate the required papers, and after he translated these papers he was asked to re-translate the passport, although he is German on the grounds that the passport data is uncertain, yet refused to give him a birth certificate for his daughter who died later.

Many of the refugees, he says, received temporary protection for a year in Germany, many of whom are married and have children, but unfortunately cannot bring their families until after 16/3/2018. Many of these people have been in Germany for two years and have filed a request for more than a year, but have not yet received a reply from the Federal Office for Migration if they have been granted right of protection.

He added,"many of these people are forced to go to regime embassy in Berlin to extend or renew the Syrian passport."

He called for a sit-in in front of the Foreign Affairs Office in Frankfurt and the cities of Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Dortmund on 22 and 23 August to protest against the unfair laws against them. The German government to find a way to issue the documents not to force them to go Syrian embassy in Berlin and to recognize the passports of Syrian refugees and their identities, despite the expiration of the validity of time, and work to end the Assad government and then will decide on their own to return home.

The official of the office of the Arab Organization for Human Rights in Germany Mohamed Kazem Hindawi explained to Zaman al-Wasl that the refugees who have the right to asylum do not have many problems in the extraction of documents because - he says – they are basically exempted from regime data to some extent, They can issue passports are even for newborns and residence for three years because they hold the residence of one or both parents.

Hindawi pointed out that the refugees who did not get asylum and got temporary residence granted by the courts are the most vulnerable to the problems of documents, and confirmed that the German Foreign Ministry has issued an exemption for Syrians to provide any documents through the embassy of the regime, but some provinces did not apply this decision or take it seriously.
