(Zaman Al Wasl)- Realizing the increasing needs of the civil society in the city of Idlib a new facility was opened on 18 of this month making use of the new atmosphere of relative stability in the area.
The 3 story- new center called Al-Karama provides free wide-range services to the people of Idlib and its countryside aiming to rehabilitate the population living in this war-torn area.
Ms. Shaza Barakat, the manager of Al-Karama center told Zaman Al-Wasl reporter that the new facility was founded to “provide social and other different services to the forgotten people of the city of Idlib,” Barakat added that center was built by Shafaq which is a non-profit organization that was formally founded in Turkey in 2013 to provide humanitarian services to the least- privileged and most affected sectors of the Syrian society regardless of their religion, sects and affiliations.
“It took three months to have the center completed. Now we are looking forward to making use of all the social manpower in Idlib and its countryside to create new mechanisms of the rehabilitation process that aims to empower the civil society in the area,” says Barakat adding that the “area has been witnessing very hard times particularly after it has become a gathering point for many displaced Syrians who were forced to leave their original cities and towns.”
The new Al-Karama center includes two gardens, a big yard, a basketball playground and a space for playing handball. The first floor of the building was dedicated to conduct learning and training courses for young men and a laboratory that is still needs the last touches to be operated.
Barakat noted that the center runs many training courses in different fields and specializations for both men and women who can also learn different crafts like tailoring, embroidery arts, first aid and treating burns because, as Barakat says “women are the ones whom the society depends on after they lose their husbands and breadwinners either by death or detention.
According to Barakat the center intends to launch new courses in human resources, managing projects, quality control and social monitoring in addition to other courses in business administration and social engineering. The center will also focus on the injured and handicapped who lost body members in the war in order to reintegrate them with their society, besides running raising awareness campaigns among young men and women willing to get married and how best to establish a new and healthy family.
Barakat concluded that one of the main tasks of this center is to provide humanitarian assistance to the least-privileged people in order to give them the chance to work and depend on themselves by running micro-financed projects, adding that the center started its work earlier than the opening day when it sent specialized teams to shelter houses and summer schools to carry out many social support activities and sponsor other sports events.
