(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 30 regime troops killed in US airstrikes on their convoy after the regime made an incursion into the 55km "de-confliction zone" surrounding the US base near al-Tanaf border crossing with Iraq, rebel commander said on Thursday.
Saeed Saif, spokesman for US-backed Martyr Ahmed al-Abdo Battalions said the US Army had pounded regime military convoy after failed incursion to the 55km, leaving at least 30 troops dead.
On Wednesday, coalition spokesman US Army Col. Ryan Dillon told CNN that after the pro-regime troops entered the zone, the US-led coalition used the pre-established de-confliction hotline and communicated the incursion to the Russians. Following that communication, the pro-regime forces withdrew, CNN reported.
Meanwhile, the moderate rebel groups near al-Tanaf garrison are seeking political solution to each ceasefire, admitting that the upper hand in the Syrian Badiya desert is for the regime army amid a regional and international pressure on Jaish Usoud al-Sharqiya and al-Abdo Battalions to end fighting with regime forces.
Activists said Washington may handle the crossing border with Iraq to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in order blockade shrinking ISIS territories in Badiya.
