Assad and Israel take advantage of clashes between Druze, rebels

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The incitement and exploitation among the Druze community have reached a momentum after clashes with Syrian rebels in Hadar town near near the Israeli-Occupied Golan Heights following the Syrian regime's attempts to control Beit Jinn town south of the capital.

The adjacent villages of Golan Bqatha and Majdal Shams were backed Hader after attacks by opposition to break the siege on the western countryside.

The Israeli military, which has been launching airstrikes against Syria, could be preparing to cross into its territory now. It says it's ready to act to protect the Druze village of Hader, located on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, after a car bomb killed nine people and injured 23 others there.

Israel stating its ready to protect the Druze villages fueled the regime to recruit the rest of the Druze through its media, and reopens the file of terrorism and sectarianism to withdraw the community to fight in the southern region to undermine the cohesion of the region after attempts to ignite the strife between Daraa and Suwayda.

A large segment of Druze in Jabal al-Sheikh stands with the Assad regime despite the attempt of Druze sheikhs to keep the Druze sect out of the Syrian civil war by refusing to recruit their youth in the Assad army. However, the Druze militias funded by Wiam Wahab and Iran under sectarian names carried out most of the attacks on opposition locations in Quenitra, Jabal al-Sheikh and Western Ghouta.

The National Defense Militia in Sahnaya near Damascus contribuited in Jedaydat al-Fadel Massacre and slaughtered with the thugs of the 10th Division the locals in the Jedaydat al-Fadel following 5-day bombing by regime artillery. According to survivors from the massacre, about 1000 people were killed including entire families.

In Jaramana in the eastern countryside, the regime formed units of National Defense militias which controlled the small city subordinate to Eastern Ghouta and hosts large population of displaced people. The regime carried out several car bombs and artillery bombing to incite against the displaced and at the same time charged the Druze population against the displaced in the city. Also, the militia harassed members of their community who oppose the regime.

The battle seems fiercer in Jabal al-Sheikh as the villages of the Sunni and Druze mountains converge and the regime and the Wiam Wahab militia armed the Druze villages under the guise of jihadist terrorist gangs and the control of al-Nusra Front over large and important villages like Beit Jinn and its farm. In response, the thugs in Arna and Baqsam villages attacked small villages like Bitma and Kafarhour and this caused dozens of deaths in their ranks because of the regime failure to support them. However, these groups still constitute a threat for the people of the mountain after signing reconciliations and truces with the regime.

Al-Nusra Front had reportedly announced that it would be launching a campaign "to lift the siege on the villages in the Golan Heights and the Syrian Hermon" which are under the control of the Syrian government. However, it stated that it had no intention of harming residents of Hader or their property, nor "anyone else who does not intervene in the war."

Therefore, the wise minds of the Druze must intervene to prevent this dangerous scheme of the regime leading them to fight their neighbors. Otherwise, the regime will succeed in entangling the Syrians with their blood so that no party will remain without revenge, especially in those porous environments.

The Druze religion arose in the 11th century from a branch of Shia Islam known as Ismailism, and is considered heretical by jihadists. The Druze make up about 3 percent of Syria's population of 22.5 million. (By Naser Ali)
