4 civilians killed in U.S.-led airstrikes on Deir Ezzor: media unit

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Four civilians were killed when the U.S.-led coalition warplanes hit last ISIS pockets in eastern Deir Ezzor province in support of Kurdish-led forces, local media unit said on Sunday.

The suspected Egyptian jets struck the towns of al-Sha’fa and Dernej in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, journalist Salama al-Hussein from Furat Post news site said.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces took an oil-rich ground from ISIS along the Iraqi border near the town of Albu Kamal, the YPG-led alliance said on Sunday.

SDF fighters have advanced towards al-Tanak oilfield, seeking to blockade the scattred ISIS fighters in al-Ishara, Sheitat  towns near the town of Albu Kamal, such a progress may spark a battle with the Assad forces, local activists said.

Syrian regime forces backed by Shiite militias and the SDF have launched parallel campaigns against the Islamic State in eastern Deir Ezzor province since May.

At least 10 displaced people, including women and children, killed in Russian airstrikes on the refugee camp of Sweihit al-Rifai on Saturday, topping the death toll to 33 in the past 72 hours.

Furat Post said 60 more people were also wounded in the camp as most of displaced  have fled the camp after three days of heavy bombing.

8 more people, including two women, were killed on Friday when the Russian warplanes pounded Hasarat crossing at Euphrates River in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Five more people, including 3 women and a child girl, were killed in al-Jerthi and Abu Hardoub villages east of al-Mayadeen city, journalist Suhaib al-Jaber told Zaman al-Wasl.
 
The regime forces and allied militias on Thursday took al-Quriya town, one of last ISIS strongholds in eastern Syria. ISIS fighters fled to al-Ishara town in the eastern bank of Euphrates River. 

Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers hit Daesh (ISIS) targets in Syria's Deir al-Zor province Sunday, Russian news agencies cited Russia's Defense Ministry as saying.

The bombers that flew from an airfield in Russia hit "terrorist strongholds" in the valley of the Euphrates river, the agencies reported.

More than 470,000 people are estimated to have been killed and millions displaced in the Syrian war, which began in 2011.
