Russian airstrikes on Idlib marketplace kill 12

At least 12 civilians were killed and 16 others injured in two airstrikes in Idlib province in northern Syria on Monday, according to an official with the White Helmets civil-defense agency.

A Russian warplane struck a marketplace in Saraqib city in the province, White Helmets director in Idlib Mustafa Haj told Anadolu Agency.

“Eleven people were killed and 13 others injured in the attack,” he said.

Another airstrike targeted a hospital in the same city, killing a civilian and injuring three others.

Haj said two journalists were among those injured in the attack.

He said rescuers have moved the injured to hospitals in the area.

Located in northern Syria near Turkish borders, Idlib province was declared as a "de-escalation zone" on May 4-5, 2017.

Controlled by anti-regime armed groups, the province has been under intense airstrikes for the last 1.5 months.

Syria has been locked in a devastating civil war since March 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

While UN officials say hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, Syrian regime officials say the death toll is closer to 10,000.

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 13 people, including women and children, were killed on Sunday in Russian airstrikes hit the northern province of Idlib, Civil Defense agency said.

Eight civilians, including family members and pregnant woman, have been killed in the town of Saraqeb, according to the rescuing group.

Five more people were killed in the town of Maarret al-Nu’man.

The aerial bombing extended to the most of southern and eastern countryside of Idlib.

Idlib province is the biggest chunk of Syria still held by rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad, with a population swollen by Syrians who have fled government advances in other parts of the country. Assad has defeated rebels in many parts of western Syria with critical help from Russia and Iran.

A total of 5,783 civilians were killed in Syria, mainly by the Russian forces, over the last two years, according to a report released by Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The report said 1,596 children and 992 women were among those killed between Sept. 30, 2015 and Dec. 31, 2017.

It said nearly 2.3 million individuals were displaced as a direct result of the Russian offensives along with their allies.

At least 294 “massacres” were committed by the Russian forces, while 141 attacks targeted the medical facilities, leaving at least 53 medical personnel dead, according to the report.

Russian forces used cluster munitions in nearly 217 attacks.

More than 470,000 people have been killed and 12 millions have been driven from their homes since Syria's revolutions erupted in 2011.
