(Zaman Al Wasl)- The seven years of Syria's war have imposed more serious repercussions than the war itself. The repercussions started to storm the society in order to weaken and dismantle and eventually destroy it.
The war repercussions reflect in the spread of addiction and drug abuse in the liberated areas. Some described the spread of addiction as more serious than all the weapons used by Bashar Assad in his war on the Syrian people and are deadlier than Assad's own mercenaries and sectarian militias that intend to destroy everything.
Spokesman for Jaish al-Thwra Abu Bakr al-Hasan, said that the spread of drugs in Houran falls within the framework of the Assad regime's plans to destroy the young generation, relying on the Lebanese militia Hezbollah, which transports drugs from Lebanon to the liberated areas.
Abu al-Hasan told Zaman al-Wasl that through investigations conducted with the arrested traders, it was found that the line of cargo went from Lebanon to the Syrian south through regime-controlled areas, and it received facilities in passage through Assad’s security and military checkpoints.
He added that, "a large number of smugglers, traders and promoters were arrested and transferred to the House of Justice in Houran, the only judicial body authorized to prosecute and track down these traders," stressing the move forward in the fight against this phenomenon, and to punish those who enter these killing toxins into our society.

The Court of Justice in Houran (the supreme judicial body) has declared that the drug trade is "corrupting the earth", asserting its intention to impose the most severe punishments against those involved. It has already enacted a law to impose maximum penalties on its promoters and traffickers and to arrest whoever is proved to be involved in drug dealing in the liberated territories.
The head of the public prosecution in the House in Justice in Houran, Judge Jihad al-Khatib, reported that the court recently destroyed 2.5 million narcotic pills, in addition to 100 kilograms of narcotic "hashish", which was confiscated after the arrest of several cells promoting and trading these materials.
He added that recently the court arrested a drug dealers’ cell that had (2000) narcotic pills and they are now under investigation and trial.
Al-Khatib said that, " the court occasionally conducts arrests of drug dealers in cooperation with rebel factions and the security offices of the revolution, "stressing that" these campaigns had a significant impact in combating this phenomenon. "
Al-Khatib added that "the House of Justice, aware of the seriousness of this issue, has addressed it through a package of measures, including preventive. It was revealed through a study that the target group of drug abuse is the age group between (15-30) The segment that promotes drugs is between the ages of 25-30 years, while drug dealers are between 30-40 years old.
Al-Khalid continued, "we have developed an ambitious plan to raise awareness and guidance and rehabilitation of addicts, but we could not implement these measures on large scale. We also started implementing raising awareness campaigns through preachers in mosques and started cooperation with some psychological support institutions operating in the liberated territories. We also addressed detainees and prisoners with educational classes about the seriousness of drugs and their destructive effects.”
Al-Khatib confirmed that "a law on drugs that criminalizes dealing, promotion, trafficking and smuggling of drugs has been prepared and drafted, stressing that this law took into consideration the medical needs within strict legal provisions while at the same time imposing severe penalties for those who violate this law."
Al-Khatib explained that "the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon are (psychological) to escape the reality, and (economic) since drug dealing is an abundant and fast-profit source of money for people with weak souls, and (political) reasons to destroy the revolution through the destruction of human and peoples’ future " .
Al-Khatib pointed out, "the fight against drugs is not the responsibility of the House of Justice alone, but it is a participatory and cooperative responsibility for society in all its institutions and sectors."
Media professional Jawad Abu Hamza reported that the campaigns aimed at uprooting this phenomenon continue such as "No to drugs" and "Do not kill yourself. No to drugs," adding that the campaigns started after the Free Syrian Army (FSA) arrested a drug promotion gang in the village of Maraba (40 km east city of Daraa), in July of last year, with a large amount of drugs.
Abu Hamza who participates in one of the campaigns confirmed that this war is fierce where clashes between rebel factions and drug dealers continue. Last August, a drug dealer killed and injured two police during House of Justice patrol in a clash near Naseeb town on the borders with Jordan.
He considered that this awareness is constructive for the young generation, but he saw that "there is no alternative to activating the role of the judiciary more, and increased security against the promoters of these toxins. Syrian youth became victims of the traders of death in all their forms."
Addiction rehabilitation center
Al-Iman Rehabilitation Center was established to rehabilitate addicts within the framework of fighting narcotics. The center opened on May 3, 2017 in al-Tayba town (17 km east of Daraa) and it was welcomed by the population. The number of arrivals to the center in a continuous increase, according to those who maintain it.
Hamza al-Huwaidi an officer at the center said, "the center has been set up to treat victims of drug addiction and to curb the spread of drugs among society. Patients are treated according to the Physicians Across Continents."
He pointed out that more than 30 people they have been treated at the center since the opening date while the number of visitors is 5 monthly.
Al-Hawaidi said that the length of time spent at the center ranges between 27 days and two and a half months. He pointed out that the reasons leading to addiction are varied, including war injuries, psychological stress resulting from wars and disasters, and the availability of drugs.
Al-Huwaidi stressed that after the establishment of the center and the arrival of drug addicts voluntarily for treatment, and after the security and military campaigns carried out by some rebel factions, in addition to awareness campaigns and seminars held by the Center with civil society organizations, this phenomenon has begun to decline.
For his part, Abdullah al-Zubi head of Tayba Local Council said that the council provides the center services and elements of the community police to provide security, noting that the patients are distributed to addicted to stimulants such as (Captagon), addicted to drugs such as (cocaine and heroin), and addicts to the central analgesics (tramadol, betadine, fentanyl and many other common oral painkillers such as bigitalin).
Al-Zubi stressed some patients with weak will returned to addiction after treatment at the center, but their number is small compared to patients who recovered and returned to their normal lives.
He called on all those involved in this deadly and dangerous scourge to go to the center to receive the necessary treatment to escape these diseases which are considered a main cause in the destruction of societies.
Zubi stressed that drugs can be used as a method of cold war to destroy the energies and spread crime in the community reaching schools and homes, pointing out that all civil, military and judicial efforts are focused to eliminate this phenomenon, which started to decline thanks to sincere and serious
