Adnan Bakkur, Liwaa al-Tawhid commander in
Aleppo has been killed in a car bomb blast by the Islamic State of Iraq and the
Levant (ISIL) near the infantry school, north Aleppo, source told Zaman Alwasl.
ISIL militants have seized parts of the
military base after fierce clashes with the main Islamic Front unit, Liwaa
al-Tawheed which has taken control of the infantry base since December 2012.
Nearly 1,400 people have been killed in
Syria since clashes between rebel forces and the jihadist (ISIL) erupted this
month, AFP reported.
“The number of people killed in fighting
between the ISIL and rebel forces since January 3 has risen to 1,395,” the
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
Clashes between rebels and jihadists from
ISIL erupted early in January after months of rising tensions.
Days ago, ISIL said it had never rejected
Sheikh al-Muhaysni's proposal for reconciliation, so-called the “Umma
Initiative” but it had asked questions prior to any agreement.
The Umma Initiative was launched by Saudi
preacher Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Moheisini last Thursday. It called for an
“immediate ceasefire in all parts of Syria” with agreement from “all groups
present in the Syrian arena.”
Syria's conflict has killed more than
136,000 people, in the latest count by the Syrian Observatory, which tracks the
missing and killed through a network of informants on the ground.
