(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hundreds of displaced people who fled northern Homs region in May are planning to return back home to their central province after huge disappointment regarding the lack of service and harsh living condition in rebel-held areas.
More than 35000 rebel fighters and their families were evacuated from Homs in May to rebel-held province of Idlib and to Jarablus town at the Turkish border.
Opposition fighters agreed with regime forces and their allies to a cease-fire deal in May for parts of the central provinces of Hama and Homs, including the rebel towns of Talbiseh, Rastan, and Houleh.
No 'promised heaven' was founded. Most of the evacuees were aware of the hardship of displacement but most of them have never expected to be stranded without services or proper accommodation.
Abu Al-Nur, 45, from al-Rastan, said the evacuees of northern Homs were abandoned by the relief and aid agencies in northern Syria.
Harsh living conditions pushed many of them to decide returning home even if their towns under the regime control.
Russia has welcomed the move of returning home, setting up new checkpoints in al-Rastan and Talbiseh.
According to the 'reconciliation deals' tat brokered by Russia, the de-facto ruler of Syria vowed to prevent any abuses by the regime army in the opposition areas after the departure rebels.
More than 920,000 people were displaced inside Syria during the first four months of 2018, the highest level in the seven-year conflict, the UN said Monday.
The fresh displacement inside Syria brings the number of people internally displaced in the war-ravaged country to 6.2 million, while there are still some 5.6 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries, according to UN figures.
More than 400,000 people have been killed in the Syrian war since it started in 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-government protests.
