Deir Ezzor: Kurdish-led fighters take 7 villages from Daesh

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The U.S.-backed Syrian forces took seven villages from Daesh along the border with Iraq, activists said Monday.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) backed the French and the U.S. air froces have seized last Daesh pockets in Abu Hamdha region in the eastern provicne of Deir Ezzor.

The SDF, which the Kurdish YPG militia spearheads, has been the main partner of the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State in Syria, helping drive the jihadists out of swathes of northern and eastern Syria last year.

Also in Deir Ezzor, the YPG-led forces have arrested about 100 people, saying they have links with Daesh and the regime.

The Intelligence service of the Syrian Democratic Forces has carried out major arrest campaign in former Daesh areas, tracking people mostly from the tribal areas, activist Taj Allaw told Zaman al-Wasl.

The SDF made prisoner swap with regime army in Deir Ezzor on Friday.

Two regime troops were freed by the SDF in the town of al-Salhiya in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. In return, the regime forces have released 3 SDF militants who were arrested by pro-regime militias weeks ago.
