(Zaman Al Wasl)- The second convoy of evacuees from Quneitra province arrived in northern Idlib province on Monday over a surrender deal with Russia in southwestern Syria, local activists said.
The convoy of 47 buses carried around 2592 evacuees, including 800 children and 700 women.
A Shiite militia held the convoy on Sunday at the gate of central Homs city. Asaeb Ahll al-Haq blocked the evacuation route of hundreds of rebels and their families who were heading Idlib province.
Under the deal, more convoys are expected to follow from the southwestern province, which is located adjacent to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights region.
On Saturday, the first convoy of evacuees from Quneitra arrived in Idlib province.
The convoy of 40 buses carried around 500 evacuees, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter in the region.
A similar deal was implemented recently in Syria’s southwestern Daraa province, according to which regime forces -- along with Russian military police -- were allowed to deploy along the nearby border with Jordan.
Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity. (With Anadolu Agency)
