Forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad have ‘kicked to death’ a 105-year-old refugee
woman in Damascus last January, her son told Zaman Alwasl.
Om Faris al-Shibli, who fled with her family the embattled city
of Aleppo to settle down in the Old City of Damascus, was a victim of Assad's regime brutality, activists said.
The woman who defeated ageing has died when number of ‘Shabiha’ stormed her house on
Jan 22 in Bab Sharqi neighborhood (The eastern gate of Old Damascus).
Mohamed al Shibli told Zaman Alwasl that his mother, who was
born in 1909, fled Bab al Neirab in Aleppo nearly a year ago.
"Through my contact with my relatives, I have learned that regime’s forces entered her house for inspection at half past eight in the evening of 22/01/2014 and she was sleeping on the bed , A solider ordered her to stand and she said she can’t, so he threw her to the ground and punched her eyes and then kicked her with his feet , consequently leading her to death with no consideration to her illness or age which exceeded one hundred and five years, and the fact that she had asthma and Coronary heart disease . He added.
He continued: "When I was living in Aleppo, there were frequent
raids on our house searching for me, and after that I sought a refuge in
Jordan, then me and my sister fled to Damascus.
It is noteworthy, that Om Faris is the grandmother of young activist
Faris al-Shibli, who is sentenced to death by regime authorities over charges
of participating in Syrian revolution in "Baba Amr”. Zaman Alwasl has
published a report
about him months ago.
