Assad's checkpoints stifle people in regime-held areas

In 2012, significant part of Aleppo was liberated by the Free Syrian Army “FSA” and regime kept controlling the rest especially West and centre of the City.

Zaman Alwasl correspondent had visited in Regime’s controlled Area and reported that first and most important feature in that part of the city was isolating each area from others and closing all entrances to each area and keeping only one controlled by regime’s forces, therefore, all people must pass that only path to get in and out that area.

Areas around the barriers have become busy with sellers and formed small markets, like Alforkan Area, which used to be affluent area, has become vegetable market with stalls of barbecue.

People started to get familiar with soldiers controlling barriers after long stay. From their side, regime's soldiers used only to open cars’ box, and sometimes blackmail by-passers to get some money or food from what they have.

Our correspondent reported that some annoyance usually take place when funerals of regime’s soldiers pass barriers, As soldiers heavily shoot in air, which causes great deal of fear and mess. Besides, when members of the National Army pass the barriers, they used to shout or swear to people, and beat any one shows signs of annoying from their acts.

Zaman Alwasl reported that in general, people feel barriers controlled by Security forces are the least rude, while those run by Air Forces security are the toughest.

Government’s buildings moved and changed their places, for example the registry office moved from Aa-Sabi’a Bahrat square, to Baghdad Station in Old Serian Area.

People reported to Zaman Alwasl correspondent that processing of official documents are going on smoothly, apart from the long queues and increasing the cost, with increasing in rudeness of staff.

Vegetables and fruit prices have fell significantly in regime’s controlled areas in latest months, after controlling Khanaser route. However, it is monopolized by Adib Salama’s brother “the head of Air forces intelligence” and Hasan Berri, Zeno's brother.

Zaman Alwasl reported that verbal orders were forwarded to renting agencies, to refuse letting houses to new comers and displaced people without security clearance.

Most displaced people lived in abandoned houses which lack most decent living condition like water, sewer and electricity. Translation by Yusra Ahmed
