Iraqi Shiite activists, loyal to
Bashar al-Assad, have mourned top commander of Thu al-Faqqar militia who was
killed in Syria recently.
Haidar Jebouri, dubbed “Abu Shahd”
reportedly has been killed in Daraa province by Syrian rebels, activists of the embattled city of Daraa said.
Many people of
al-Nabk city in Qalamoun region had been massacred by Jebouri months ago, according to human rights advocates.
The Iraqi and Lebanese Shiite
militant groups have sent its gunmen to fight alongside Assad's forces,
providing a significant boost to the Assad's overstretched military.
Shiites’ deep involvement in Syria
underlines the regional sectarian aspect of the conflict, in which an
Iranian-backed Shiite axis faces off against Sunnis supported by Gulf Arabs in
a proxy war extending into Lebanon and Iraq.
Syrian conflict is estimated to have
killed around 140,000 people and displaced millions more.
