The Sudanese and Egyptian foreign ministers met in Khartoum on Thursday, where they reiterated calls for a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
At a joint press conference, Sudanese FM Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed also said that Khartoum and Cairo planned to push peace initiatives -- proposed by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir -- aimed at resolving conflicts in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shokri, for his part, voiced his country’s continued support for the Sudanese leadership, which for the last eight days has faced mounting protests against rampant inflation.
“We support the stability of Sudan,” Shokri said. “We’re confident that Sudan will surpass its current problems.”
The two sides also agreed to work together on the issue of fair Nile water distribution and the planned construction of a joint electricity grid.
