(Zaman Al Wasl)- Zaman al-Wasl obtained a picture of a woman detainee Hana’a Abdulatif Khaled, who died under torture, and due to medical negligence in Damascus (Adra) Central Prison.
The former detainee Luna al-Agha has revealed that Han’aa, who was born in 1987 in the town of Zabadani west of Damascus, was arrested on charges of disassembling explosive devices and taken to two of the most brutal military Intelligence branches, before settling in Adra prison, until she died in September 2016.
Hanaa‘s family was banned of visiting her during her last days. She couldn’t communicate with her family, not even by telephone. Luna describes Hanaa as a decent woman with a revolutionary spirit.
She used to reassure and comfort the rest of the detainees who face difficult circumstances. She was earning some money from her work in beads inside the prison.
Luna revealed some of the circumstances of Hanaa murdering. She and other inmates were surprised by Hanaa's deteriorating health condition as a result of torture. She confirmed that the victim was complaining about a stomachache. But she didn’t want to go to the detainee's Medicare, because she feared the expected humiliations and penalties for each female detainee who turns for help from the medical in the prison.
Hana’a remained in a severe health condition, until she reached a stage where she vomited blood. Only when she was breathing her last breath, the police intervened and took her and we didn’t know anything about her since then.
The next morning, the soldiers informed us that Hana’a was still in intensive care, but a detained nurse assured them that Hanaa had died since taking her due to her stomach disease.
According to the jailers’ claim Hana’a was died of a brain stroke, a genetic disease she inherited from her family, preceded by her mother and sister, according to their claim.
The regime handed over the body of Hana to her relatives, in Tishreen military hospital in Damascus, after forcing them to sign a document confirming the death of their daughter due to a brain a stroke.
Hana’a was not the first victim that she witnessed her death in the prison, but there is another case in which the jailers murdered Nadia Rifai from al-Maydan neighborhood in Damascus.
