Activists reported that Damascus
recently witnesses many incidences of arresting and detaining pro-regime people
like informers, spies and popular committees' members in many neighborhoods.
Activists confirmed that an informer
in Bab Srijeh neighborhood, known to be a drug dealer, has been arrested.
Another incidence was reported when one of guards on Alhasan barriers insulted
a member of the popular committees and arrested him.
The same story in Mezzeh, when a
pro-regime informer was arrested and detained for more than 6 months.
In Al-Mohajerin neighborhood, all
barriers run by popular committees were taken off and replace with ones
controlled by security branch 40, and responsible for the barriers were
threatened of detention in they made any trouble in regard to the
neighborhood’s control.
Many activists explain all these
procedures by regime’s mistrust in anyone, even those who support it. While
others see reasons behind those changes in treatment as an attempt from the
regime to improve its picture and change people’s attitude toward it before
election. Translation by Yusra Ahmed
