Queiq River Massacre, the sixth anniversary

(Zaman Al Wasl)- On 29 January 2013, bodies of 110 men, killed by the Syrian regime, were washed up in the Queiq river running through Aleppo city, such a horrible scene still in memory in the sixth anniversary.

Obaida Baaj, a media activist, told Zaman al-Wasl that he was at his office when a friend told him about the massacre. He charged to go to Bustan al-Qasr school to document dozens of bodies.

At least 70 bodies with hands bound behind the back, their mouths sealed with tape, and gunshot wounds to the head. 80% were between 20 and 35, old women and children were among the dead,” Baaj said.

The victims were arrested from checkpoints such as Al-Masharqa at the Bustan Al-Qasr crossing, on charges of participating in demonstrations or belonging to the Syrian opposition, according to lawyer Ahmed Shibli.

The regime snipers were deployed on the roofs of buildings overlooking at the Bustan al-Qasr were obstructing the search for more victims, and execute everyone approaching their place.

A report by the Syrian Institute of Justice documented details of the massacre. The military intelligence and intelligence services, as well as pro-Bashar al-Assad militias that control the security barriers in Aleppo, were directly responsible for arresting and torturing Syrian civilians because they support the Syrian revolution in the city of Aleppo.

They systematically torture civilians, execute them and dump their bodies in the Queiq River.

The regime forces threw the bodies and then opens the stored water to carry them for several kilometers, reaching the territory controlled by the rebels.
