At Thursday night, the Lebanese authorities detained 18 Syrians, including four women, at Rafik Hariri airport in order to deport them to Syria, despite they were fleeing from the hell of the Assad war.
According to sources, the Syrians were deported from Cyprus airport, to Istanbul airport and then to Beirut.
"Human rights access center" was informed that Syrian refugees were arrested at Rafik Hariri airport in Beirut and they are threatened to be deported to Syria.
“The Lebanese public security at Beirut airport is holding 18 Syrian refugees, including four Syrian refugees without being allowed to enter Lebanese territory because of the entry ban that was placed on their passports on April 21, 2019” added the centre.
Sources at the airport indicated that the security of the airport forced the refugees to agree on deportation outside the Lebanese border by signing papers stating that they had voluntarily agreed to leave the country.
In light of the concern of the Lebanese General Security Council, we as “Human rights access center” recommend that the Lebanese authorities immediately and expeditiously withdraw the forcible deportation decision and allow thosedetainees to enter Lebanese territory and grant them temporary residence, under which they can move for a few days, until their status is legally settled.
The Human Rights Access Center has already worked on several cases related to arbitrary detention at Beirut airport this year.
The centre has documented 7 Syrian refugees in January 2019 without knowing their fate until now after being forced to sign on the deportation papers and leave them outside the Lebanese border.
