Muslim Scholars in Lebanon stand with Syrian refugees

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon condemned the decision of the Supreme Defense Council to demolish housing and thousands of tents for Syrian displaced persons on Lebanese territory.

According to the association, the decision will leave people without shelter, especially in Ramadan.

In an act called “Stop the war on the weak”, this behavior was considered as a serious human massacre, because these refugees will be homeless and will turn into beggars, so the host countries will be affected negatively in a way or another.

The association was surprised of the forced displacement of Syrians from their tents in Lebanon, while celebrating the anniversary of the sheltering of the displaced Armenians.

“This decision is unjust and against Arab morals and international norms”

Sheikh Adnan Amamah, head of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon, told Zaman al-Wasl that they were informed that the Supreme Council of Defense issued a decision to remove all the inhabited houses including housing units, as the army leaders are willing to implement this decision on Thursday.

According to Sheikh Amamah, the association was very disappointed about this unjust decision because it means removing 7000 tents and housing units, so these displaced people will burden the host society.

He called on the Lebanese officials and those concerned to pay attention to the consequences of this dangerous decision and its consequences, because it will generate a fertile environment for terrorism.

“We have no explanation for this, but to respond to the dictates of the Syrian regime and its allies in Lebanon” he said.

He pointed out that the Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon will make officials updated of this risk and Friday prayers in Lebanon will treat this issue too.

On April 24, 2019, a Lebanese army force raided a camp in the Batroun area and removed about 150 tents in the area of Bar Elias in the central Bekaa and settled it with the land, claiming that it is currently empty of displaced persons.

The camp was established in 2016 in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and the UNHCR to absorb the displaced from "Arsal" and then was considered as a camp to receive emergency cases.
