(Zaman Al Wasl)- A recent study by the Social Planning Office showed that about half of Syrian refugees in the Netherlands, who came between 2014 and 2016, prefer permanent stability there.
The study mentioned that about 6,000 Syrian refugees may get the Dutch nationality during this year, if they wish to obtain it, after satisfying the required legal conditions.
-Re-evaluation-
According to the Syrians website in the Netherlands, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mark Harbers is willing to re-discuss and assess the security situation in Syria in June.
The Minister said that there are two options: if the report says that Syria is safe it means that the Syrians will not receive an extension residency and if the report says it is not safe they will have the right to reside in the Netherlands.
Harbers' recent speeches on the security situation in Syria have raised concerns and fears among the Syrian refugees in the Netherlands, especially after the decision of the Immigration Department in neighboring in Denmark in February that considered a number of areas in Syria safe for the end of the armed conflict. , taking into account Syrian refugees threatened by their personal safety by the Syrian authorities.
Sumar Chaaban, who has been living in the Netherlands for 30 years, said the re-evaluation of the security situation now, in Syria and the prospects of its results comes in the context of the political messages accompanying the European Parliament elections scheduled to be held at the end of May.
Chaaban is currently posting his opinions of Syrian affairs in the Netherland on his Facebook page.
The file of refugees is considered one of the most sensitive files in all European countries, especially with all high voices of the right- wing parties.
He pointed out that Denmark is not the only country to follow such a policy that other European countries might soon follow. In the Netherlands, the justice Minister announced that he would wait for the Foreign Ministry report before deciding what would happen to Syrians.
Chaaban excluded that the result of discussing the security situation will be negative because any executive step to end the residence and then forced deportation will be subject to many The opposition is by a good part of the Dutch people and by the executive authorities concerned with the affairs of Syrian newcomers.
“The Netherlands has invested hundreds of millions of Dutch taxes in containing the Syrians” he said.
Chaaban also excluded the decision to consider some areas in Syria as safe areas, so the subject is premature and still in the process of political debate full of assumptions.
“There are about 6,000 Syrian refugees who are entitled to Dutch citizenship in 2019 if they apply” he said.
He said that about 90,000 Syrians in the Netherlands, who arrived in Syria after the war in Syria, were granted five years' residence initially by the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization Services (IND).
Despite all the advantages the Syrian refugees in the Netherlands suffer from many difficulties, notably the difficulty of learning the Dutch language and the difficulty of finding suitable professional opportunities.
Chaaban strongly believes that the Syrians in the Netherlands have to reassess their professional experience, their view of their job opportunities, and seek professional qualification through which they can improve their Dutch language, achieve financial independence and dispense with government assistance if they want to survive and maintain permanent stability in the Netherlands.
