(Zaman Al Wasl)- Secondary school students in Syria’s eastern provinces were forced to take their exams in centers controlled by regime forces in Hasaka, Deir al-Zour and Hama, activists said.
Activist Mahmoud al-Ahmad said that the secondary school exams went naturally in Hasaka and Qamishli without any security restrictions despite the tension between the regime and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD).
According to al-Ahmad, security and military barriers closed the streets leading to schools in the city of al-Hasaka, causing a traffic jam on the first day of exams.
The activist said that the students and supervisors are forced to move to the areas controlled by the regime forces in the cities of Hasaka, Altai neighborhood in Qamishli, and some villages to the south, or to the cities and towns of al-Shamiya on the right of the Euphrates in Deir Al-Zour and Raqqa in order to complete the examination process especially the ninth exams curriculum of the Ministry of Education in the regime.
The Education Directorate announced that more than 14,000 students went on Sunday to take the secondary certificate in all its branches, while more than 15 thousand students take the certificate of basic education, on Monday, in examination centers within the secure cities of al-Hasakah and Qamishli, which are under the control of the regime since the Democratic Union Party took over schools and developed special curriculums.
According to Imad al-Azab, the regime’s Education Minister, more than half a million students will take the examinations of basic and secondary education branches.
The Directorate said that it took into account the geographical distribution of more than 230 examination centers for the housing of about 30 thousand students in the secondary and basic certificates, who will take exams this year in Al-Hasakah and Qamishli, compared to 31 thousand students last year.
In Deir al-Zour, about 7,000 students secondary in 66 centers in the city. 108 basic education centers were allocated, more than half of them in the city center while the rest are in al-Mayadeen, al-Asharah and al-Tebni region in the countryside.
As for students of al-Raqqa, the Ninth grade students will take the exams in the centers of Al-Sabkha, Ma’adan and Dbsi Afnan in the regime-controlled al-Shamiyah area, as well as assigning centers for secondary students in Hama city from today until the end of this month.
The Department of Examinations in the Education Ministry said that more than 240,000 students took high school certificate examinations the first session of 2018-2019 distributed to 2066 centers in different provinces.
