Leaked document shows lack of Interior ministry staff over defection

The ongoing conflict in Syria has its major impact on the Syrian regime in a war the caused severe attrition in its soldiers, where many either killed, ran away to escape death, or defected to defend the country against the unmerciful regime.

In an official telegram issued by the department of administrative affairs in regime’s ministry of interior, a formal complain about the shortage in soldiers in its four warehouses located near Damascus countryside, and warned that work might stop unless more 30 soldiers are recruited to guard these warehouses.

The document which is among thousands of documents obtained by Zaman Alwasl, mentioned that the department has 4 warehouses in Moadamieh, which are: the armory, equipment warehouse, stationery warehouse, and passports warehouse.

Directed to Minister of Interior Mohammed Al Shaar, the document pointed out the importance of these warehouses since they meet the needs of the entire police units in all Syrian governorates, as well as provide the necessary equipment, weapons and stationery.

Moreover, it requested the minister’s approval to recruit the 30 soldiers in order to do the assigned tasks and guard these warehouses at night under the current security conditions, saying that “work will stop due to lack of soldiers”.

In return, Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Alshaar wrote a note on the document requesting to clarify the number of soldiers who were enlisted in the warehouses at that time, (the seventh month of 2012) and in a subsequent letter, head of the department replied that the number available doesn’t exceed 3 soldiers, stating their names and the dates of their (end of service).
