The open hunger strike in Amouda, north-east Syria, turned to be a bloody scene after an attack by gunshots of PYD, the Kurdish militia, killing 4 people and dozens wounded. Activists said.
'' Asayesh militia, the security forces of PYD (
democratic union party ) has opened fire on young activists who gathered to
demand the freedom for the detainees,'' Amouda coordination reported.
The Kurdish party that well-known by supporting Assad's regime has accused of arresting many Kurdish activists for their solid position with the revolution.
The civil society of Amouda protested in solidarity with the detainees in the PYD prisons. '' We need our sons out of the Kurdish Guantanamo'', activists said.
PYD is a member of the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change. Although it is critical of the Assad government, the PYD has been accused by the Syrian opposition of collaboration with the Ba'athist regime, acting as enforcers for Assad in Kurdish areas, silencing critics such as Mashaal Tammo.
Certain Kurdish opposition figures have even
claimed that the Syrian Army has handed over control of certain parts of
northeastern Syria to the PYD, leading to disputes and clashes between the PYD,
the KNC, and the Syrian National Council. The PYD has accused the SNC as
acting as Turkey's henchmen, and due to a long running dispute between the PKK
and the KDP, it is also at odds with the KDP supported Kurdish National
Council.
PYD is a Syrian Kurdish political party
established in 2003 by Kurdish nationalists in northern Syria. The party is
affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is listed and
considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, the European
Union and NATO.
In
relevant development, The former chief of opposition Syria National Council
(SNC), Abdulbaset Sieda asked the Kurdish parties of the country to join the
council, Anatolia news agency said.
“I came in Erbil again to demand the Syrian
Kurdish parties to join Syria opposition national council and support us
against president Bashar al- Assad,” Sieda Said.
He added he has held meetings with Syria Kurds
National Council and received Kurdistan Region’s president Massoud Barzani
support.
A number of Kurdish parties leaders joined us
in Istanbul and other cities but later distanced, he further said, adding that
the right of the Kurds in opposition organization of Syria is kept.
Sieda demanded the Kurds to join them and fight
against Assad government.
He further expressed his worry about the Syrian
refugees in Kurdistan Region.
Speaking to KurdPress last month Sieda asked
Kurdish armed forces, especially the People’s Defense Units (YPG), military
branch of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), to join the appositions and fight
against Bashar al- Assad.
The Kurdish forces, however, have always demised request to join the oppositions as they believe the opposition body does not recognize their right.
