(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian security head Ali Mamlouk made a surprise visit to the northeastern city of Qamishli where he met with Tribals figures and commanders of the US-backed forces, sources said Thursday.
The meetings took place in Qamishli air base which was previously used by American troops until last month, when Turkey launched its two-week-long incursion into northern Syria.
The head of the National Security Bureau seeks to stand on the de-facto control map in northeastern Syria as Turkey, Russia and the U.S. have shared the control on the oil-rich territory.
Turkey’s military took the Kurdish-held border areas in northern Syria immediately after US forces were withdrawn. Turkey has a longstanding enmity with the Kurds and wants to push back the YPG from its border.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group dominated by the YPG, has been controlling some 28 percent of the Syrian territories, including most of the 911-kilometer-long Syria-Turkey border.
