(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Syrian man died of wounds sustained during a kidnapping attempt in southern Sweida province, local activists said Friday.
Taher al-Aqbani, 26, was shot by gunmen who tried to kidnap him in the main stronghold of the Druze community.
Death of Al-Aqbani, originally from the town of Nawa in Daraa province, is likely to increase the tension between Daraa and Sweida, due to the kidnapping cases.
Residents of southern Sweida province have voiced concerns of mounting cases of kidnappings by gangeserts, local news site reported.
Sweida, home of about 700,000 people mostly from Druze minority, is currently in a state of chaos right under the nose of local factions and Assad forces deployed in all cities and towns of the province.
On Thursday, notables from Daraa contributed to the release of 3 young men from Sweida who were kidnapped last week, with the aim of pressuring the kidnapping gangs to release their detainees.
Meanwhile, protests took place in Al-Hirak, Dael, and Eastern Karak, demanding their release from prisons, the fall of the regime, and the expulsion of Iranian militias.
Two detainees from Daraa died of torture in the Syrian regime prisons, activists said.
Syrian opposition sources said that more than 500,000 prisoners remain inside the regime prisons.
According to the International Conscience Movement, an NGO, more than 13,500 women have been jailed since the Syrian conflict began, while more than 7,000 women remain in detention, where they are subjected to torture, rape and sexual violence.
The Syrian regime has been practicing 72 torture methods gainast detainees in security chambers and military hospitals, SNHR said October.
Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
