Opinion- Coalition's feeble stand and Homs Deal

Translation by Yusra Ahmed

ISTANBUL (Zaman Alwasl)- The gap between the armed and the political opposition was noticeable since the beginning of Syrian revolution. Moreover that gap has increased dramatically with the unprecedented sacrifices Syrian people gave.

The modest and cold attitude of the Coalition toward Homs agreement is an example of that growing gap, as it dealt only with outcomes ignoring reasons behind, and all what the Coalition mentioned in its statement was allocating some financial allowances to people who left Homs.

Accusations and differences among the Coalition members added that feeling of the growing gap. Besides the increasing keen of Jarba to extend his presidency to the Coalition or find another cooperative one.

“Jarba is out of coverage” a Coalition member described jarba and added that most members started feeling that they lost their executive leadership, and the coming Coalition election will be the Straw that broke the camel's back.

In a relevant content, Zaman Alwasl has obtained some details about communication between Coalition’s members where Dr. Khalid Nasser, in a letter to the political office of the Coalition, presenting a summary of his communication with al-Rifaee as he was accused of defaming Suhair Attasi, Anas Abdeh and Noura al-Amir and holding them responsibility of legitimizing handing Homs. However al-Rifaee said that all he meant to say was that those people’s performance and attitude toward Homs in Geneva2 helped in legalizing handing it. Moreover, al-Rifaee highlighted that the Legal office was the body responsible for investigating and questioning members, not the political office.

In his accusation letter, al-Rifaee directed his speech to Geneva2 negotiation team, Abdeh, Attasi and al-Amir, and accused them of legitimising handing Homs, displacing people and giving up for only providing some food, instead of breaking siege and facilitating people’s return to their city.

As a response, Abdeh complained and requested investigation with Rifaee saying: “it seems that some people find it easy to accuse and distrust people, I will not reply to those lies, however I request the Coalition to form a committee to investigate in those defaming accusations and present outcomes to the General Assembly”

Al-Rifaee replied to that complaint saying: “it seems that people who talked in Homs’s people name in Geneva2, do not want to hold responsibility, instead they act as a victim, they do not want to see where things had reached as a result of legitimizing displacement. Investigation should be done with who was a part of that process to legitimizing displacing Homs’s people instead of breaking siege”

Al-Rifaee revealed that he had sent many letters to the Coalition and negotiation's team in Geneva2 , notifying them about the regime’s plans to displace people of old Homs and to legitimise that by the united Nation.

Zaman Alwasl has obtained many letters from al-Rifaee directed to coalition’s members about the harsh attack of regime on Aleppo, and warning from the regime’s attempts for reconciliation and cease-fire after enforcing siege, to escape from being forced to open humanitarian corridors to the siege areas.
