(Zaman Al Wasl)- The meeting sessions of independent members from the Syrian opposition in Riyadh have ended, however, their effects did not halt, as the fear of a "vertical secession" increases, according to the statement of the head of the negotiation commission Nasr Hariri.
Both Saudi Arabia and Turkey remain silent in the face of the increasing popular dissatisfaction among the opposition, indicating that the dispute is Syrian-Syrian. On the other hand, the opposition tosses the blame on the overall dependence on these countries’ agendas.
The meeting concluded with two elected lists, the first with 13 members to form a General Secretariat, and the second consisting of eight independent representatives for the negotiating commission. A total of 68 participants agreed to form a public authority for independents, with positions open for any independent person to join later.
According to sources, the concerns are legitimate, from the legal override to the possibility of new alliances within the new body, which will affect the formation of the constitutional committee.
“The president of the committee’s mandate ends in the upcoming weeks, and it will not be extended, after it was extended for an additional year. Due to circumstances related to constitutional work, it was exceptionally extended for three months. Nasr al-Hariri expressed our concerns and our message to Saudi Arabia. Supporting the opposition differs from manufacturing it,” the source explained.
Some believe that the possibilities are wide open, for while Saudi Arabia is moving according to the international mandate approved by Vienna and Resolution 2254, Turkey, however, has its tools and it will not accept neutralising its "allies" from the negotiating body, not after its involvement in the north.
