Assad's northern Syria advance alarms U.S.

(Zaman Al Wasl)- With the ongoing Russian-led offensive on last rebel stronghold in northwestern Syria and with the threat of violation of the Sochi ceasefire agreement, indicators of the U.S. involvement can be discerned in the nature of mobilization and bombing, targeting the Syrian regime army and allied militias.

These indicators involve the statements by American diplomats of a decision to increase the support for the Syrian opposition.

US State Department and its Syrian affairs envoy, James Jeffery, warning through direct messages about crimes being committed by the regime and Russia against civilians.

Statements, from two day ago, by the State Department spokesman confirming Washington’s support to Turkey's right to respond to the regime’s aggressions in Idlib. (Turkey being an important ally in NATO).

Washington is seeking to impose new sanctions and to adopt more economic pressures and embargo.

Donald trump’s administration is focusing on three main areas as a strategy for working in Syria.

A radical change in the structure of the regime, with pressure being placed on all parties, especially the Arab countries that are trying to reintegrate the regime into Arab structures, including the Arab League.
In addition to a return to Resolution 2254, whether through political or military pressure, to complete the constitutional process through electing a regime that is unconnected to Iran and does not threaten Israel.

Removing Iran from Syria, and this means continuing the bombing of its sites, whether by Israel, or through the American Air Force.

Maintaining the existing coalition against ISIS and fighting terrorism, which is an necessary alliance that at the same time constitutes a firewall against any friction between conflicting armies on the ground.

The escalations coincided with the US waiting to overcome the issue of impeachment vote in the Senate, which ended up acquitting President Donald Trump. However, now with the Caesar Act sanctioning the regime being passed, the American administration now has an additional leverage on all companies that have economic ties with the Syrian regime, especially the Russian and Chinese.
