(Zaman Al Wasl)- The military intelligence Division has arrested a Syrian woman near Damascus over claims she made phone calls with regime opponents seven years ago, local media outlet said Saturday.
The regime security claimed that the detained women had links with rebel fighters who were evacuated to northern Syria in 2018 after a brutal offensive on Eastern Ghouta suburbs.
According to The Capital Voice, regime security services have arrested five women in two months in the eastern suburbs of Damascus.
The International Conscience Movement, an NGO, says more than 13,500 women have been jailed since the Syrian conflict began, while more than 7,000 women remain in detention, where they are subjected to torture, rape and sexual violence.
Syrian opposition sources said that more than 500,000 prisoners remain inside the prisons of the Syrian regime.
The nine-year-old war has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and forced 13 million people from their homes, half of whom have left their shattered homeland.
