(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkish-backed forces on Friday have thwarted an attack by Kurdish PYD militia east of the border Ras al-Ayn region, military source told Zaman al-Wasl.
Two PYD groups tried infiltrate into the village of Bab al-Faraj east of Ras al-Ayn town.
According to the source one Kurdish fighter was killed. The Turkish army has handed the body to the Russian forces.
Over the past two weeks, clashes erupted between the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian National Army near the town of Ras al-Ayn.
Tens days ago, the Turkish army killed 8 YPG militants were trying to cross into the ‘Operation Peace Spring zone in northeastern Syria.
Meanwhile, the Russian military police set up observation points in Ras Al-Ayn region to halt skirmishes between Turkish-backed National Army and Kurdish militias.
The new outposts have been constructed between the towns of Tel Tamr and Abu Rasayn north of Hasakah city.
The Turkish military and the Syrian National Army attacked Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria on October 9 with the aim of creating a roughly 30-kilometer (20-mile) deep buffer zone.
Kurdish forces agreed to withdraw from a 120-kilometer (75 mile) long, Arab-majority segment of the 440-kilometer (275-mile) border zone, although clashes have been reported since.
Turkey subsequently reached a deal with the Syrian regime's main backer Russia for Kurdish forces to pull back from the entire border area.
