Amid the recent accelerated events in Iraq, political analyst Abed Al Rahman Matar confirmed to Zaman Al Wasl, that after the sweeping invasion of the Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) to several Iraqi cities, the Iraqi scene seems surreal , unpredicted by any of the region’s observers , despite all available data for the last two years which provided the suitable conditions for this sharp turning point in Iraq’s new history, which in the future might lead us to discuss an event much more important than the fall of Baghdad in the spring of 2003.
According to Matar, the Iraqi scene is complex and blurred in general, and whether Daesh has a major role in the events or is just part of it, it definitely has the ability of confrontation and invasion, which is based on the its bloody and criminal reputation in forcing people and communities to be submissive to them, which is the reality of what happened.
However, many other Iraqi forces have started this national movement in the face of Maliki’s sectarian dictatorship as a continuation to Anbar’s uprising two years ago, before Nouri al-Maliki suppressed it with the American and Iranian support. He added.
“In my opinion, the Iraqi scene, in essence, is an organized rebellion against a new fascist authority led by Iran, which has stalled the Persian project, and caused a setback to the American project in Iraq and the region, with an emerging danger of new oppresses”. He added
On the relationship between what is happening in Iraq and the Syrian revolution, Matar Clarified that the Syrian crisis helped in spreading the turmoil to Iraq, while the international and regional communities were not paying attention to what the Iraqi forces have been preparing for, and that contributed significantly to the moment of the invasion.
“Daesh is doing everything in its capacities to enhance its state and extend its influence on the Syrian territories, in fact, Iran and Iraq have both contributed in supporting Daesh to cause chaos and confusion to the Syrian revolution, since it’s the same chaos and bloody Islamism that Bashar Al Assad has warned about and predicted since the beginning of the revolution, putting Syrians between the devil (regime) or the blue sea ( Daesh) to either accept regime’s hell or the influence and tyranny of these extremists”.
And Matar added , what is happening in Syria and Iraq is the result of a wider practice of oppression and exclusion, together with playing with the political affiliations and social components, by the allied trinity dictatorships "Assad, al-Maliki and Tehran's mullahs" and their bloody criminal tools that deployed death and destruction in the region such as “ Daesh, Liwa Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas, and Hezbollah," all of which worked together to suppress the Syrians, using dark forces to distort the revolution by dragging it away from its goals , terrorizing people , keeping them away from their essential goal in toppling the tyranny to regain freedom and dignity.
Matar clarified that when the international and regional community overlooked what Daesh and other similar groups were doing, that eventually strengthened their authority and presence in the region and also led to the marginalization and lack of real support to the Syrian revolution.
Therefore, Daesh has spread its influence east and fought battles that prepared and established to what is happening today in Iraq, Raqqa, Deir al-Zour and southern of Al-Hasakah, without any previous visions that indicted such moves.
And the forces allied with Daesh , have put a strategic plan to reign power through what is called today “ the clans’ revolution”, and the battle of Iraq liberation" to end their submissiveness to foreigners, and change the intruding reality that was imposed in Iraq , until the full liberation of the entire Iraq.
“Moreover, It is important to say that Syrians were left alone to face "Daash", which will eventually make the international powers, particularly the United States and the European Union, pay a huge price in Iraq”.
And regarding his opinion on whether the Iraqi scene will witness more complexities and what are the expected possibilities. Matar said: “it’s so early to predict the repercussions of the new Iraqi scene, but there are some raised concerns because of the recent developments and what came along with it, such as magnifying Daesh’s role and the recent maps and documents that were leaked by the latter, all of that brought back the memory of the Iraqi invasion to Kuwait in the summer of 1990, suggesting that what is happening is an extension of Saddam Hussein’s project.
In addition to that, the forces that support al-Maliki and his policy in Iraq stand on opposite sides from their regional projects, and that made the process of making crucial decisions to address the challenges, not at as fast as the sweeping Iraqi invasion which seized the equivalent of one-third of the country.
On the other hand, Matar believes that the united states, under Obama’s new leadership and foreign policy and despite all the fundamental differences between Democrats and Republicans, will not consider a military action in the near future to stop the rebellion, which revealed the fragility of the Iraqi army and the absence of a central authority, a government paralyzed to do anything.
What we can picture today, is that the Iraqi revolution will strengthen its positions in areas they control, regardless of its components or relations with Daesh , Al Qaeda, Baath or the clans.
The Iraqi scene is so complicated being overlapped with the Syrian crisis from one hand, and on the other hand because of the tangled relationships of all parties with each other, and with Assad’s regime.
